Acupuncture for Lower Back Pain
John has been treating lower back pain with acupuncture for over a decade in his clinic in Naas town, Co. Kildare. He has experience in treating pain caused by:
- Trauma or injury – aiding in pain relief and assisting the healing process.
- Slipped disc – by relaxing the surrounding tissue, pressure is taken off the herniated discs, allowing then to sit in it’s natural position.
- Sciatica – reducing the muscular tension and inflammation around the nerve eases the pressure on it, releasing the pain.
- Muscle strains and sprains – relaxing tight muscles and bringing down inflammation allows faster recovery and gives pain relief.
- Arthritis – by helping reduce inflammation in the joints, we improve mobility and reduce pain.
- Chronic Back Pain – using acupuncture as maintenance for back pain helps reduce the perceived pain and assist in mobility.

What is involved?
On your first appointment, John will take time to listen to your issues and concerns. It’s essential to understand the causes of your pain before starting any treatment.
Firstly, John focuses on diagnosing the root cause of your pain. This involves feeling different areas of your body to discover any hidden tension. Often with lower back pain, the back is the “victim”, with the cause of the pain being elsewhere, such as the glutes or hamstrings.
Next, he covers other areas of your life that could be impacting on the pain. This often includes assessing posture at work, sleeping habits, exercise and even diet.
Finally, John decides on the most appropriate combination of treatments. His passion lies in combining several therapies such as massage, cupping, herbal medicine, and ointments. This enables him to tailor each session to your needs, creating a powerful treatment.

What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture uses tiny needles inserted into the body at specific locations. It gently triggers a response in the nervous system which influences blood flow.
Most pain in the body is caused by inflammation or pressure. By communicating with the nervous system, acupuncture brings down inflammation. And by regulating blood flow, it reduces pressure. Soothing this pressure and inflammation eases pain.
