Acupuncture for Sinusitis & Hay Fever

Our acupuncturist John in the Naas treatment room

Acupuncture for Sinusitis & Hay fever

John has over a decade of experience treating sinusitis and hay fever using acupuncture and herbal medicine. He is based in the centre of Naas town, Co. Kildare. His experience in treating sinus issues include:

  • Irritation – by calming the immune system’s response to pollen or allergens, irritation to the eyes, nose, ears or throat is eased.
  • Pressure and pain in the face – moving fluid from around the nasal and sinus cavities eases the sensation of fullness and pain.
  • Blocked nose – opening the airways and reducing mucous production allows mucous to clear.
  • Headache – by regulating fluid circulation in the head, pressure is relieved and the head feels lighter.
  • Clouded mind – again, by regulating fluid curculation in the head, the mind feels clearer.
  • Long Covid – stimulating the immune system helps to clear the remnants of an infection.

What is involved?

On your first appointment, John takes time to listen to your issues and concerns. It’s essential to understand the causes of your discomfort before starting any treatment.

Firstly, John focuses on diagnosing the root cause of your sinus issues. This involves talking through the symptoms, their exact location, and any seasonal pattern. It also includes covering the history and progression of the issues.

Next, he talks through your general well being, including diet, exercise and overall lifestyle.

Finally, John decides on the most appropriate combination of treatments. His passion lies in skillfully combining several therapies such as acupuncture, herbal medicine, ointments or cupping. This enables him to tailor each session to your needs, creating a powerful treatment.

How does Acupuncture treat sinusitis and hay fever?

Sinusitis and hay fever are generally caused by either an infection, a build-up of mucous, or an over-reaction of the immune system to harmless pollen or allergens. Acupuncture treats these issues in the following ways:

  • Stimulate the immune system – acupuncture activates the immune system and focuses that response on the infected area.
  • Reduce inflammation – by stimulating the nervous system, acupuncture causes the release of anti-inflammatory hormones and neurotransmitters.
  • Clear mucous – reducing inflammation in the airways and stimulating the respiratory system allows the body to clear mucous more easily.
  • Regulate the immune response – acupuncture’s modulating effect on the immune system ensures it doesn’t overreact to threats, such as dust or pollen.
  • Relieve pain – Acupuncture is well knows for releasing endorphins, regulating nerve response and reducing inflammation, all of which reduce pain.
